Paper machine felt (also known as press felt) is a continuous ring structure made of special fabric used to support the movement of wet paper web in the press section. Its main functions include removing moisture squeezed from the paper web by the press rolls, providing a uniform surface to achieve the desired surface finish, and helping the paper web pass through the machine at high speed.

The Leizhan felt consists of a synthetic base mesh layer and a fiber batt layer. The base mesh (usually made of high-tenacity nylon or polyester) provides the structural integrity and “void volume” needed to hold water. The fiber batt is needle-punched onto the mesh to create a smooth, cushioned surface that protects the delicate paper fibers. Leizhan’s felts are designed to resist compaction. In the press section, felts are subjected to immense nip pressure. Inferior felts flatten over time, losing their ability to absorb water.
